Today i finally got me a new switch for my network. A 3Com OfficeConnect Gigabit 8 port monster. I put it under my desk
. The Airport Extreme moved to the livingroom and is my main router and firewall/NAT installment now. I ditched the Soekris because m0n0wall… well let’s say it’s no longer a well maintained system. It has it’s flaws and stupid stuff. The Airport is a much simpler device and cannot do as much. But it works. The only downside is that i now no longer have a VPN server and DNS forwarder is a bit too basic to my taste. But other than that it seems to work quite nicely.
NAT-PMP is heaven! No more NAT port forwarding… yay! And Adium filesends just work
smooth!
yay! Anyway, i want to work out a VPN sollution over time i think, maybe put the Soekris to that. I’m not sure yet. Or i’ll just leave it as it is now.
Also i switched my Wifi to 5ghz 11n. It seems to work good so far. Speedy as a mofo! Which is always good. And my whole network except for the server is now Full-Duplex gigabit. Up to 30-35 Megabyte i pumped through it. Which is quite fast compared to the 8-11 Megabyte i got earlier. Woohoo!
Now let’s see how it’s holding up!

Hurray!
