Today i could pick it up at the post office. Apparently i missed the mailman yesterday. Anyway, an exploration through the box told me that everything was complete. Then i got things hooked up. The mini actually worked. So i quickly SuperDuper!’d over the files from the PowerMac to the Mac Mini. And BAM! everything worked. Neat!
I noticed the absence of wifi in the Mini as well as bluetooth. And in the other Mini sits a wifi and bluetooth card i don’t use… Let’s swap them. However, that didn’t work. At first glance it seemed to go fine. Until i noticed that the antenna mounts were different for both bluetooth and wifi. So sure i could put the card in place and get everything setup. But there was no way to properly mount the antenna’s. Bah, so no wifi. So i threw a rather unstylish cable over the floor. And the network was made.
And how are they compared in specs? Since the Mini replaces the PowerMac.
| PowerMac | Mac Mini | |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | G4 1Ghz | G4 1.42Ghz |
| Ram | 2GB pc2700 | 1GB pc2700 |
| Harddisk | 200GB | 80GB |
| Optical | CD-rom | Combodrive |
| Video | Nvidia Geforce4 MX | ATI Radeon 9200 |
| Sound | Stereo | Stereo |
| Network | 10/100/1000Mbit | 10/100Mbit |
| Weight | 19.1kg | 1.32kg |
So yea on some parts it’s a weaker computer. Still it’s good enough for the things it’s gonna be used for. Also it’s not a Powermac!
And who is it for? My mum! She plays myst :)
