Hah! And you should get one too!

Don’t know about openDNS yet? It’s a free DNS service trying to make the internet work better. I use their servers for my home internet connection exclusively, apart from my own internal DNS server. I think they’re doing a great job since name resolving goes lighting fast.

What is DNS? It means Dynamic Name Server. Which basically is a service translating the web site addresses we type in computer readable terms. If the server translation is set up properly things go faster and are more secure.

How do reclusive geeks like me adapt to a social internet?

Written by Arnan on January 27, 2010 – 1:49 am

We won’t! We can’t… we we we… Perhaps not all of us. Let me rephrase. I won’t! I can’t! Social networking is awkward.

Facebook is bloat, Twitter is useless, news forums are worthless. Youtube is only fun for watching, but not for actual using. IM is handy for the few friends i have. IRC is full of idiots.

People often are boring. And i don’t feel comfortable with most of them. Even though i sometimes want to. I lack the capacity to take an interest on why your cat smells like garbage. And why do you think i should see this bloke getting punched in the face by a girl. Or even that you ate pizza, again, because you were too lazy to cook. Or better yet… time the interval of your tweets to find out your average time you spend on a toilet on a daily basis.

Cloud computing is not for me. Many say it’s handy. Sure it is, if you need it. But i have my own server. I can reach my whole network all my files and email, as long as i have interweb. Why should i be forced to adapt to cloud computing? Because it’s cool and hip and social and it allows me to share things with my friends.
Great! Bring me friends, then we’ll talk! Oh wait, i’m not good at making friends…
Or keeping them, or staying in touch with people.

Flickr has nice images though. If you look around for a bit. But also there, the community thing they have. Boring!

I like Eve online! But that’s a bit of a geeky game. Spaceships and lasers! Woot! I play it every day for a bit. Or try to. I like it a lot. I even have some buddies on there… We fly around, shoot at things and have fun. How social am i! I’m so proud :) yay!

I have a spaceship! I have a spaceship!!! And i’m a millionaire! Fuck yea!

Perhaps not all is lost… Perhaps it’s just me who is lost.

Geekbag april 2009

geekbag-april-2009

Yarr! A geekbag update. It’s not much still, i have most things either at home, work or combined. Like the iPhone, it’s also my music player, organizer, en-route games machine, GPS and so on. Laptop, obviously. But i rarely take it with me lately, since i have a laptop at work also. Can of deodorant, bike pump and emergency fix-your-bike stuff. Always handy. Some cables; ethernet, iPod and headphones. 120GB Portable drive and thumb drive are still there. Packets of chewing gum and a bunch of pens with my phone number on them. Passport and wallet since they’re hip items to carry around. My pocketknive for that one nasty situation, like when you want to bring it on an airplane and get frisked. And lastly, my resume with copies of my diploma’s. Cuz, you never know.

* I was let through, WITH the knive though. Also on the way back. I was allowed a knive on the plane. Security really is a joke.
